Modelling a simulation environment to test the design of a new cockpit

As part of a project to develop a virtual environment to test the design of a cockpit, I supervised a multidisciplinary team, coordinated the stakeholders and ensured technical and regulatory compliance. Right from the start, clear objectives were set, followed by rigorous planning and regular checks to ensure that deadlines were met and deliverables were of the highest quality. During the execution phase, I optimised the production processes and introduced collaborative tools to strengthen communication between teams. The project was delivered on time and on budget, with very positive feedback from users on the ergonomics and relevance of the design.

Les phases du projet

1. Démarrage

  • Needs analysis: Organisation of meetings with stakeholders to clarify the functional and technical expectations of the project, and identification of the necessary resources.
  • Risk assessment: Identification of the major risks associated with the project, in particular technological constraints, and implementation of a mitigation plan.
  • Establishing the governance framework: Setting up monitoring structures, including weekly updates and a steering committee to validate the project’s key stages.

2. Planification

  • Structuring the project schedule: Drawing up a detailed schedule including major milestones, intermediate deliverables and test periods.
  • Budget planning: Estimating costs based on the human, software and hardware resources required, and making regular adjustments as progress is made.
  • Preparation of project documentation: Creation of a shared documentation repository to centralise specifications, test plans and progress reports.

3. Exécution

  • Operational monitoring of activities: Daily coordination with the technical teams to monitor the progress of tasks and resolve any obstacles in real time.
  • Change management: Handling change requests from stakeholders, and adjusting the schedule accordingly.
  • Process optimisation: Continuous adjustment of production processes to improve productivity, particularly in the design of 3D models and the validation of prototypes.
  • Compliance and intermediate testing: Compliance testing and regular quality checks to ensure that each deliverable meets the established requirements.

4. Surveillance & Contrôle

  • Quality control: Carrying out regular audits to ensure that specifications are met in intermediate deliverables.
  • Progress reports: Creating progress reports for stakeholders to provide full visibility of project status.
  • Risk management: Periodic reassessment of risks and updating of mitigation strategies as the project evolves.

5. Clôture

  • Validation of final deliverables: Verification of final deliverables with technical teams and validation by stakeholders.
  • Final documentation: Compilation of project documentation, including specifications, final test reports and performance analyses.
  • Feedback: Organisation of feedback sessions to identify strengths and areas for improvement for future projects.

Outils, méthodes utilisés & Résultats

Outils & méthodes utilisés

  • Project management software: Use of Microsoft Project to plan tasks and monitor milestones.
  • Mapping software: Use of Google Earth to define the perimeter of the area to be modelled.
  • Agile methodology: Application of an agile methodology for greater flexibility and adaptation to changing needs.

Résultats obtenus

  • Deliverables in line with expectations: Production of a fully functional virtual test environment validated by the stakeholders.
  • Positive user feedback: Feedback from end users (the client’s UX designers) confirmed the relevance of this environment for carrying out UX Design tests.
  • Improvement of cockpit mock-ups: The virtual environment revealed areas for optimisation of the cockpit mock-up being designed, enabling certain technical and ergonomic choices to be adjusted.
